Given the complex nature of their job, facilities managers need to be skilled in a raft of diverse areas, from compliance and regulatory matters, to financial planning and leadership.
Our professional competency framework seeks to benchmark core FM skills in order to set minimum standards and exemplars within the industry. The framework forms the foundation for our CPD programme and is used in the assessment and accreditation of Certified members (CFMANZ).
Reflecting the diversity of an FM’s role, the framework is made up of 13 core competencies, divided into three categories:

A. Operations & Maintenance
Demonstrates an understanding of the technical aspects of how a facility works.
B. Facilities Management Planning
Can compile and action a facilities management plan.
D. Technology & Innovation
Can demonstrate the implementation of a contemporary technological solution that improves the FM function.
E. Compliance & Regulatory
Ensures that the facility fully complies with laws and regulations.
G. Strategy & Leadership
Inspires and gets the best out of staff/contractors that they lead, and demonstrates skills in leading people.
J. Property Management
Manages property from a strictly lease based point of view, potentially as the owner’s representative.
